Why I Love My Bible

“Why I Love my BIBLE”
Do you? Not mine, Yours!
Psalm 119

Introduction: Do you eat at least one meal everyday? What if you went one, two, three, or four weeks without eating?  You’d probably get weak, sick, and possibly die. In the same manner, how long can a CHRISTian go without feasting on the truth of GOD’S WORD? “One WEEK without the Word…..makes one WEAK!” Here are (7) reasons why you & I need to be fed by the “Word of God” everyday:

1. We need to be fed by the Word of God because it REVIVES us! (Psa 119:25, 40, 88, 107, 149, 154, 156, 159)
“My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.”

[The Hebrew word for “Quicken” is chayah, which means to revive, to have life, to be restored]

• The Word brings you back to life when you’re down
• The Word of God restores us during difficult times
• The Word of God is the catalyst for Faith (Rom 10:17)

2. We need to be fed by the Word of God because it STRENGTHENS us! (Psa 119:28)
“My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according to thy word.”

• When we feel weak, God’s Word gives strength
• When we face fear and insecurities, the Word of God releases power

3. We need to be fed by the Word of God because it gives us HOPE! (Psa 119:43)
“And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments.”

• The Word of God gives HOPE in this life (Rom 15:13)
• The Word of God gives HOPE in the life to come (1 Cor 15:1-58)

4. We need to be fed by the Word of God because it keeps us from BACKSLIDING! (Psa 119:67)
“Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.”

[The Hebrew word “astray” is Shagag, which means to err or sin ignorantly or inadvertently]

• The Word of God is like a mirror (James 1:23)
• The Word of God convicts and corrects (2 Tim 4:1-8; 2 Tim 3:16, 17)

5. We need to be fed by the Word of God because it’s more VALUABLE than money! (Psa 119:72)
“The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.”

*Money can buy you rubies, but not redemption
*Money can buy a nice home, but not a home in heaven
*Money can buy you fancy clothes, but it cannot buy you a robe of righteousness

• It takes money to live, and there is nothing wrong with having it – as long as it doesn’t have you! But, there are some things more important than money!
• Money is not evil…. the “love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Tim 6:10)

6. We need to be fed by the Word of God because it makes us WISE! (Psa 119:98)
“Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.”

• Wisdom is found in Jesus (1 Cor 1:30, 31)
• Wisdom is available if we ask (James 1:5)
• Wisdom “Sophia” is gained through the knowledge of God’s Word (Prov 8)

7. We need to be fed by the Word of God because it GUIDES us! (Psa 119:105)
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

• The Word of God is like a flashlight shining in the dark!
• The Holy Spirit of God uses the Word of God to direct our steps so that we can be in the will of God! (Rom 8:14; Psa 119:130; Prov 4:18)
