Out with the Old – In with the New

Introduction: Do old, bad habits keep trying to creep back into your life? Will they ever go away? What can you do?Why do they keep coming back?

Answers to these questions will be addressed in this devotion:

1. Being In Christ sends old things away! (2 Cor 5:17) – “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Once born again, the old condemning penalty for sin passes away. Gone…. never to be remembered anymore. The lake of fire is no longer in view! Whereas, the gift of God is now New!

2. Being In Christ doesn’t mean that some old things won’t try to come back! (Gal 5:16-24) – “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

Obviously even though the flesh has been dealt with by the mighty cross of Jesus Christ, its underlying tentacles try to resurface. Howbeit, one fatal blow by the Holy Spirit renders it inoperative.

3. Being In Christ means that one day all old things will pass away, but things will be made New! (Rev 21:1-7) – “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea…..”

Somewhere in the future there is going to be a passing away of the old earth as we know it, but a creating of a new heaven and a new earth. How is God going to do it? Only He knows. Can’t wait!

Conclusion: There is relief being “In Christ Jesus” with the Old going out and the New coming in!
