Serving with a Good Attitude When You Have Other Things to Do!

Introduction: Have you ever struggled when you have had other things going on, but you were called upon to “SERVE” the Lord? Like watching an extremely important ballgame, for example, a playoff or championship game? Like having your family want to go somewhere at that time? Like when you were tired? Like when you could be making money instead of volunteering?
Here is a “SERVING JESUS” test with five thought-provoking points to ponder for you to evaluate your SERVICE to JESUS:
1. The real measurement of “SERVICE” to Jesus through His Church can be weighed by our SACRIFICE!
(Luke 10:33–37) – “But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.”
While it will definitely COST something in SERVING our Lord JESUS CHRIST, don’t forget about the REWARDS waiting—along with the CHARACTER that He is building! Are you willing to PAY THE PRICE to follow CHRIST? It is worth it!
2. The real measurement of “SERVICE” to Jesus through His Church can be determined by our MOTIVE!
(1 Corinthians 3:12–15) – “Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”
One day in the future, all that we have done in SERVING will be TESTED. Either it will pass with eternal REWARDS, or fail while going up in smoke. Which will it be for you?
3. The real measurement of “SERVICE” to Jesus through His Church can be achieved only by rearranging our PRIORITIES! (Matthew 6:33; Matthew 22:37–38) – “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Of course, in the context of this passage, food, clothing, and worry are the concerns. But Jesus redirects those concerns to His will for our life.
Bottom line: If we put Him in His rightful place, everything else will be met. Do you trust Him?
4. The real measurement of “SERVICE” to Jesus through His Church can be examined by our FOCUS!
(Romans 12:15; Hebrews 12:1–3) – “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.”
(Romans 12:15; Hebrews 12:1–3) – “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.”
Enthusiasm is contagious! Put your heart into SERVING JESUS! He will BLESS you!!
5. The real measurement of “SERVICE” to Jesus through His Church will be JUDGED at the JUDGMENT SEAT of CHRIST! (2 Corinthians 5:10) – “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
Time will tell! Are you looking forward to what is described here—namely the JUDGMENT SEAT of CHRIST? Or are you trying not to think about it?
Conclusion: Well, how did you do? Truthfully, we have all failed at times. However, hopefully, this simple devotion will help us get back on track and prepare to stand before JESUS CHRIST as He gives out REWARDS!
Love y’all,
