Introduction: Even though ALL things are POSSIBLE with God {in His will}, some things are beyond the possibility. Take for example this verse of Scripture. The Holy Spirit wanted Paul to convey to the reader that the God of the Bible was above and beyond all things. Look at this verse: “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” (Rom 11:33)
Check out the word “unsearchable” speaking of God’s judgments. It is the Greek word ἀνεξιχνίαστος, which means going beyond all human ability to even locate. I like another definition. Listen. What do you think about this—“impossible to discover; elusive”? Does that make sense? In other words, God’s judgment is unfathomable. Accept it.
Next, connect the dots. Did you know that God is rich? Think about it. Here we are told that He is “rich in wisdom and knowledge.” One writer noted, “Divine riches are innumerable and self-consistent; they express God’s nature and sustain His redemptive plan.”
Bottom line: God reveals Himself in His Word. But remember, there are some things about God that we cannot completely understand.
1. Our Thoughts Are Not His Thoughts nor Our Ways His Ways! (Isa 55:8–9) – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Now tell me, can you get your finite mind around the INFINITE? What a mighty God we serve!
2. Secret Things Belong to Jesus! (Deut 29:29) – “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God.”
Go ahead and settle this in your heart. You can’t figure Him out! But you can’t live without Him!! You can’t exhaust His wisdom, but you can’t please Him without it. With that being said, the song comes to mind… “Oh for GRACE to TRUST Him MORE”!!!
Back to Romans 11:34: “For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller?”
Honestly, everyone needs guidance. Whether we will admit it or not, we need direction in life when it comes to making decisions. Wisdom is available. But heavenly wisdom only comes from the Lord Jesus Christ! Do you need wisdom? Are you faced with a major decision? Have you considered every angle? What about the consequences of your decision? Where will it take you? Cost you? Hurt you or help you?
Remember, Jesus Christ is our “wisdom,” according to Paul’s writing (1 Cor 1:30–31). Ask Him. He is available to those that trust Him.
Conclusion: Now you see why our God is “UNSEARCHABLE” or IMPOSSIBLE to FULLY INVESTIGATE! There are absolutely no computers, even quantum, that can contain the greatness of the ALMIGHTY.
“Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” (Rom 11:35)
Therefore, we must conclude that we cannot OUT LOVE GOD, OUT SERVE GOD, or OUT GIVE GOD!
