Leading with Conviction but not Perfection

Introduction: Look at who God used to be leaders. Obviously, they were not perfect. But you can see several “character traits” that were evident. Hopefully, this devotion will encourage us all to develop these irreversible traits. After all, every parent, grandparent, and people of all walks of life are influencers of others by our life and more specifically lifestyle.

1. As a spiritual leader, be like Paul who encouraged others to follow him as he followed Jesus Christ! (1 Cor 11:1) – “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”

Do not miss that! First, Follow Jesus!! Make sure others are following JESUS!!! JESUS never fails!!!!

2. As a spiritual leader be like Moses who was humble. (Num 12:3) – “Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.”

Meekness is not Weakness. Rather, it is STRENGTH under GOD’S CONTROL! Are you coming under His control?

3. As a spiritual leader be like Queen Esther who desired God’s will over her own! (Esther 4:16) – “I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.”

Now that is powerful! God did a work in Esther to the point of her willing to lay down her life for her people—the Jews. That takes a lot of GRACE!! But no wonder, even today in Israel, the Jews still talk about Esther who was a great leader, especially celebrated during the time of the feast of Purim, which commemorates the Lord’s deliverance against their enemies. Her influence is still going strong.

4. As a spiritual leader be like Abraham who led his family and interceded for the lost! (Gen 18:18–19) – “Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”

What a great statement from the Lord Himself. He could depend on the leadership of Abraham to lead his family. What a balance between legalism leadership and Lord-led leadership! Do you lead under legalistic rules or by liberated living in Christ Jesus?

5. As a spiritual leader be like Barnabas who was Spirit-filled, a peacemaker, and a generous giver! (Acts 4:36–37) – “And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.”

One key sign of a Spirit-filled leader is generosity. Are you generous or stingy?

6. As a spiritual leader be like Peter who was teachable and usable! (Acts 10:13–21) – “And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven. Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate, And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there. While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them. Then Peter went down to the men..”

Amazing huh? Peter was “correctable” and “leadable” — that is why he was “usable.” Are you correctable?

Conclusion: What a tremendous brief study on “Leading with Conviction but not Perfection”! Trust and hope you were blessed. Much more could be said on the subject, but for now, suffice to say, LEAD with CONVICTION although not with PERFECTION.
