God’s Design for Our Time {In the Home}

Introduction: Are our homes under attack from Satan’s forces? Is the “My Way” mentality plaguing our marriages. Does it seem like children are becoming more and more rebellious?

Has the attitude of our culture changed from good to bad? In other words, instead of “loving our neighbor,” the new trend has become “sue your neighbor!” What is the answer? Jesus Christ is our only hope. Please notice God’s prescription for the home.

1) A Husband’s love and leadership! (Colossians 3:19)—“Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.” Love means love. What? Really this word “love” is agape which has to do with unconditional love. Truthfully, only Jesus Christ working in and thru a husband can fulfill this role. Why? Because we are selfish by nature. However, when the Holy Spirit fills a believing husband then he is empowered to overcome the flesh, and thus glorify the Lord while fulfilling his godly calling.

2) A Wife’s loyalty and heartship! (Colossians 3:19)—“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.” By the way, the word “submit” is ὑποτάσσω: pronounced hoop-ot-as’-so. It literally means to come under subjection, or go place under. Also, this is a voluntary action on the part of the wife. But what better example is given than Jesus Christ submitting to His Father’s will. Furthermore, this does not mean abuse or being a door mat. Instead, this reveals that God ultimately holds the husband, who is delegated as the head, to be the leader. Now granted, a wise husband will take good and godly counsel from his wife. In the case of an unbelieving husband, the Christian wife must then assume the spiritual responsibilities while still being under her husband’s position.

3) A Child’s learning about the Lord! (Colossians 3:20)—“Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.” Did you notice this is what pleases the Lord! Conversely, when children disobey their parents, this displeases the Lord. Let’s face it. There should be a desire in the heart to please Jesus. Why? Because He put eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3). Then, and only then, will we find our ultimate purpose in life with a personal relationship with our God.

Conclusion: There we have it. God’s Design for our Time. Follow His plan, and get His blessing!
