Will You Answer Jesus When He Calls You?

Introduction: Jesus is calling. Will you answer? Please do not let it go to VOICEMAIL! This passage of Scripture is a blessing. First, Jesus calls a sinner named Matthew to follow Him. Then, He calls others to the Harvest Fields.
Have you answered the first call? Check it out.

1. Jesus calls us to follow Him! (Matt 9:11–13) – “And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.”

Matthew was moved to follow the Master instead of the money! Howbeit, others will criticize you like the Pharisees if you have a heart for sinners to be saved. Nevertheless, our Lord rebukes the self-righteous crowd by saying the following:

“But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Wow! That sums it up!! By the way, do not miss the word “repentance.” Why did He say that? Because His goal—mission—like ours, was to give people a better life {a change}. Sin thrills. And then sin kills! Having our sins forgiven and a given a new heart brings with it a NEW LIFE.
A NEW LIFE is found in a personal relationship with the only One who can love us unconditionally.
How would you describe this NEW LIFE?

2. Jesus calls us to join Him in reaping the harvest! (Matt 9:35–38) – “Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”

Notice the progression:

• The Blessing (Matt 9:35)
• The Burden (Matt 9:36–37)
• The Brave (Matt 9:37–38)

Conclusion: When Jesus calls what will you do? Has He called you to follow Him? Are you following? Has He called you into His Harvest Field? It is plentiful and ripe. Go reap.
