A Prayer for the New Year

Introduction: This is a tremendous verse in the third epistle of John. While there are three men in the Church that John addresses, this verse stands alone as a mountain peak. It was meant for the first of the three men, Gaius.

Make it a prayer. But please note that this is not a “name it and claim it” verse for those who are not walking with the Lord. That is the key for His BLESSINGS.

1. This is for those who Walk in the TRUTH of God’s Word! (3 John 3-4)

“For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

Evidently Gaius was obedient to the promptings of Holy Spirit. Apparently, he was not living in darkness. It seems obvious that he was not living in habitual sin. For some reason this message is lacking today with the SEEKER friendly – pop-psychology sermons and Bible studies today! It is true that the masses of people living as they please – living for SELF – gravitate to this teaching. Why? Because it makes them FEEL GOOD while living in their sin, being taught and thinking that God just overlooks it. No problem. Live in disobedience but still “name it and claim it”? These and other Scriptures in the epistles (1John 3:6-10) refute this FALSE teaching. When we sin, we must confess it in order to be in fellowship with Jesus Christ (1John 1:5-2:2).

2. Once walking in TRUTH, then make this a prayer. (3 John 2)

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

Praise the Lord! This means prospering in body, soul, and spirit…etc. Make it your prayer!!

Conclusion: Please notice the order.

1. Walk in Truth
2. Pray in Faith
