Remembering the Fallen

Introduction: Unfortunately, today many do not recognize “Memorial Day” except for it being a three-day weekend. How about you? If any of your family or friends have been killed while serving in military, it becomes a priority to REMEMBER the ultimate sacrifice of so many.
Why should we take time to REMEMBER those fallen soldiers? Here are several reasons:
1. Jesus reminds us of this great truth! (John 15:13)
* Heaven
* Obedience
* The Holy Spirit
Jesus laid down His life for us as a perfect sacrifice! Through His death on the cross, and because of His redeeming blood, our sins can be forgiven!
2. Our Freedoms are dependent upon our strong military – and our God! (Ecclesiastes 3:1-10)
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of WAR, and a time of peace.”
The nation of Israel in the days of Joshua was to fight for their freedom. The God of the Bible promised to be with them.
3. Jesus fought and won the biggest war in history! (Col 2:13-15; Heb 3:8)
“8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
Satan wanted control – that is why Lucifer fell (Isa 14; Ezek 28). Jesus overcame the enemy of mankind when He fulfilled His mission on earth. (Matt 4:1-10; Matt 20:26-28)
“But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Are you going to fulfill your mission?
