Keep the Fires of Faith Burning
Not only did our Lord Jesus lovingly warn His disciples, but Paul also spoke concerning these days.
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.” (1 Tim. 4:1–2)
So how can we “Keep the Fires of Faith Burning”?
The word “stir up” pictures an instrument that blows air on a fire to ignite its flames. God the Holy Spirit releases fresh wind to fan the flames of faith. Can you feel it?
2. By moving close to the fires so that the dross in us is removed, resulting in purifying us! (1 Pet. 1:5–7) – “Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.”
Trials, tests, hardships, afflictions, and persecutions are all used by the Lord to purify His people. Can you feel the heat? God’s will is to make us more like His Son, the Lord Jesus.
3. By adding fuel to the Fires of Faith! (2 Pet. 1:5–7) – “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”
Through the process of being set apart, we are conformed more and more into His image. By the way, there will never be a time when we have arrived. Instead, this is a lifelong process. So go ahead and make up your mind that you are going to cooperate with the Holy Spirit.
4. By thawing out doubt and fear! (Mark 4:39–40) – “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith.”
Instead of being called the “Frozen Chosen,” we should want to be called “Red Hot Christians”! Are you cold and frozen, or on fire?
Conclusion: Are you going to move closer to the fires of faith to keep them burning? Avoid the chill that is coming upon Christians today. How? By “stirring, moving, adding, and thawing,” then the fires of faith will keep burning.
