From Limited To Unlimited

Introduction: Do you ever feel limited? In other words, can you feel the effects of getting older? “Just cannot do what you once could do”! Guess what? One day, we who believe in Jesus Christ as personal Lord & Savior will be UNLIMITED somewhere in the near future. Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit writes about that becoming a reality.
 

1. What is meant by our “OUTER MAN” perishing?

“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” (2Cor 4:16)

The word for “faint” is ἐκκακέω,(ek-kak-eh’-o), which means (2Cor 4:16) faint, am weary. Are you getting faint and weary with all the “STRESS” of life?

The word “perish” is διαφθείρω,(dee-af-thi’-ro), which means to destroy utterly, to spoil, corrupt. In other words, our bodies are wearing out… literally decaying. But there is GOOD NEWS!
 
 

2. How is our “INNER MAN” being renewed?

“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” (2Cor 4:16, 17)

The word “renewed” is ἀνακαινόω,(an-ak-ahee-no’-o), which means renew, make new again. In other words, our Spirit man is growing stronger, getting ready to take its heavenly flight.

3. What should be the believer’s FOCUS?

“18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2Cor 4:18)

The word “temporal” is πρόσκαιρος, (pros’-kahee-ros), which means in season, temporary, for a season. This is just a SEASON of life!

The word “eternal” is αἰώνιος,(ahee-o’-nee-os), which means age-long, and therefore: practically eternal, unending; partaking of the character of that which lasts for an age, as contrasted with that which is brief and fleeting.
 

Conclusion: Here is Paul’ s resolve in his heart because of the reality of our bodies weary out but our Spirit’s being renewed.

“7For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

If this Pastor was writing this, it would read, “This HEAVY AFFLICTION which sometimes seems forever…” But PRAISE the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit is inspiring Paul to look at the BIG PICTURE.
