Victory in Jesus

Introduction: Jesus WON the Victory! Rather than being defeated, He CONQUERED death, hell, sin and the grave!! Paul was a recipient of that Victory and wrote about it.

1. Victory in Jesus over death!

“57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1Cor 15:57)

In this great chapter (1Cor 15), the apostle Paul reveals: the INSURMOUNTABLE Evidences of the Resurrection; the UNDENIABLE Evidences of the Resurrection; the IRREFUTABLE Occurrences of the Resurrection, and finally the INDISPUTABLE Assurances of the Resurrection. Death has lost her sting. Therefore, we are to be steadfast unmovable always abounding in the work of the Lord!

2. Victory in Jesus in Life!

“14Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. 15For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: 16To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life.” (2Cor 2:14,15,16)

The sweet fragrance and aroma that is in Jesus Christ permeates the believer as we linger in His presence. Once that infusion takes place, the believer releases a soothing smell of life to other believers, but to the unbelievers a fragrance of death.

3. Victory in Jesus over sin!

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” (Titus 2:11-14)

If all God wanted was to save us from the PENALTY of sin, then why didn’t He just take us all to heaven?

According to the Bible, our Lord’s will and purpose is to deliver His people from not only the PENALTY of sin but the POWER of sin as well. In so doing, He is GLORIFIED.

Conclusion: In the light of what has been said, Press on soldiers.

“Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
