Leftovers or Makeovers

Introduction: Do you like leftovers? After Thanksgiving do you eat leftovers? Maybe the next meal? But days?
How well do you think Jesus likes leftovers? Think about it. How often do we give our Lord Jesus what is best instead of what is left… our time, treasures, talents?

With that in mind, check out what the apostle Paul wrote to the Colossian Church as well as us today.

1. How much did we get of JESUS CHRIST? (Col. 2:6)“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:”

Please do not miss the word “LORD.” It is the word κύριος which means master, sir, owner. Literally, it has to do with being one’s boss! Honestly, do you try to tell Him what to do or do you (we) take orders from Him? When He tells you to go, speak, or give, do you always obey? Is your life under His LORDSHIP or is it under YOURSHIP? LEFTOVERS?? MAKEOVERS?

2. How much does He get of us? (Col. 2:6–7)“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him… rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

Again, do we need to rearrange our priorities? Are we giving JESUS as Lord our BEST or mere LEFTOVERS? What changes need to take place? What kind of MAKEOVERS?

Truthfully, since JESUS gave His BEST, how can we do anything less than our best?

Application:

1. Can you explain how someone can RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior Jesus Christ? (Col. 2:6)
2. Are you READY to defend your faith? “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” (Col. 2:7–8)

Conclusion: So instead of giving JESUS CHRIST our LEFTOVERS, let’s do a MAKEOVER and give Him our very best.
