When We See Jesus

Introduction: Can you imagine what it is going to be like when we see Jesus? Are you anticipating that time? Should we be faithful until that time? When you see Jesus what will you do? Say? Today’s passage parallels this coming event – when we see Jesus!
1. Simeon patiently WAITED to see Jesus!
“And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.” (Luke 2:25)
Are you waiting with anticipation to see Jesus? Did you notice Simeon was “devout”? The word “devout” is εὐλαβής, (yoo-lab-ace’), which means cautious, circumspect; or God-fearing. Do we live in a God-fearing world? Not hardly. But there are many believers who are God-fearing. Are you?
2. Simeon faithfully SERVED as he waited to see Jesus!
“And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law.” (Luke 2:26,27)
Faithfully serving our Lord Jesus is a life-long process. Why? Because He calls us to serve Him. Instead of self-serving as the world does, the cross of Christ crucifies the flesh, while the Spirit of God empowers followers of Jesus Christ to live and serve Him.
“If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.” (John 12:26)
3. Simeon REACHED OUT his arms and HELD ON to Jesus!
“8Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said.” (Luke 2:28-32)
When Simeon saw Jesus and held on to Him, he PRAISED His Lord! Do you think that is what we will do when we see Jesus?
4. Simeon LET ALL those around him KNOW that Jesus was the Messiah – the Savior to both the Gentiles and the Jews!
“29Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.” (Luke 2:29-32)
Are we telling our friends and neighbors that Jesus has come in the flesh to save whoever will trust Him? Don’t forget to add… Jesus will come again some sweet day!
when we see Jesus! It will be worth the waiting!!
