Wise Men Still Seek Jesus

Text: Matthew 2:1-15

Introduction: Do you want to be known as a WISE person? Wisdom is a trait that is commendable in the Scriptures…. would you agree that our world is in great need of wise people – those who possess godly wisdom? Jesus Christ becomes the believer’s wisdom (1 Cor 1:30, 31). In studying the biblical account of Matthew’s gospel, there appears three (3) characteristics of a wise person. See if this applies to you.

1. If you are a WISE person, you will SEEK His Hand of WITNESS! (Matt 2:1-15)

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.”

**Where does the Lord reveal His WITNESS?
(3) Places:

1. First, God shows His Witness in the SKY – A STAR ⭐️ v.2, v. 9, v.10
See Psalm 19:1, 2…..“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.”

2. Second, God reveals His Witness in the SCRIPTURES – Matt 2:5, 6…

“And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.”

3. Third, God reveals His Witness in the SAVIOR- Matt 2:2, 11

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.”

Personal Application: When a person is SEEKING the Lord Jesus thru His WITNESS, this in turn should lead him or her in trusting Jesus as his or her SAVIOR.

2. If you are a WISE Person, you will BOW down at His Feet and WORSHIP! (Matt 2:11)

“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”

**Do you take time to WORSHIP Jesus Christ not only as your Savior but as your Lord? This seems to be the missing Jewel in the crown of many CHRISTians today.

3. If you are a WISE person, you will SEEK His Face because He is WORTHY! (Matt 2:10)

“When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.”

** Is He WORTHY of your SACRIFICES?
** Your SUBSTANCES?
** Your SERVICE?

Conclusion: Are you a WISE Person? Based on this brief study of those who Matthew calls, “Wise Men,” do we SEEK the person of Jesus Christ’s Witness in His Word? Do we Bow down before His FEET and WORSHIP Him? Do we really recognize His WORTHINESS? If all those are true about you and me, then we are WISE. Don’t you want to be known as WISE?
