Convincing

Introduction: Is the Bible the Word of God? Where’s the proof? Recently, this Pastor had the privilege of speaking to about 20 high school students at a CHRISTian school. More specifically, there was a request to address the credibility of the Scriptures – keep in mind, on their level. How would you address this subject? The following devotion discusses only a few of the reasons for believing that we discussed.

1. An eyewitness, Peter defends why he believed that Jesus Christ was the Son of God!

“16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.” (2Pet 1:16-18)

Remember, Peter saw Jesus Christ transfigured before his very eyes.

2. An eyewitness, Peter defends why he believed that the Bible was the Word of God!

“19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.” (2Pet 1:19,20)

Interesting. Peter claims the holy writings are more sure proof of his belief even though he witnessed the miracles of Jesus Christ.

3. An eyewitness, Peter defends why he believed that the Holy Ghost of God carried the writers who were inspired to write the Word of God!

“20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2Pet 1:20,21)

There are not multiple interpretations; instead, according to Peter who was inspired by the Holy Spirit, there is a correct interpretation though there may be many applications to the text.

Conclusion: Based on the credibility, reliability, authenticity, and prophetic accuracy, like Peter, we should conclude – because of the conclusive evidence, that the Bible is the Word of God.

I’m convinced!! Are you?
