A Harlot Changed by a Scarlet

Introduction: The God of the Bible is in the life-changing business! Peter went from the Sandman to the ROCKMAN! Mary Magdalene went from being possessed by seven demons to being possessed by Jesus Christ – the risen Lord!! Thomas went from doubting to shouting!!! Both John & James went from being hot headed to being apostles of love. This devotion will explore a sinful woman who was changed into a saint who was full of faith.

1) A Sinful Woman named Rahab! (Josh 2:1) – “And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.” According to the genealogy of Matthew, Rahab had a baby boy named Boaz. Is it any wonder that he extended GRACE to RUTH? Have you shown grace to others?

2) A Sinful Woman named Rahab heard about a Mighty God! (Josh 2:9-11) – “And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.”

She had heard about the wonder working power of our Great God! Are you sharing Him with others?

3) A Sinful woman was changed by a Mighty God because of her Faith in Him! (Josh 2:6,18) – “But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.”

“Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.”

“By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace” (Heb 11:31).

You see she exercised her faith in the God of the Bible. Have you? Did you notice the scarlet thread?

Conclusion: Regardless of one’s sinful lifestyle, Jesus can change the hardest heart. By simply putting one’s faith and trust in His redeeming blood (symbolized by the scarlet thread), changes will result. He changes our “want to’s.” Have yours been changed?
