Jesus Our Rock
Introduction: Where can I go, when my heart is overwhelmed? What can we do, when we get bad news? How about when you get down? David gives us hope, which comes from our Lord in times of trouble.
1. When you need RELIEF! (Psa 61:1, 2)
“Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. 2From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed.”
2. When we need a ROCK! (Psalm 61:2)
“…..I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
If we could just “STAND” on solid ground when we’re sinking!
When our strength fails, and weakness takes over, we need a ROCK that is immovable!
3. When we need a REFUGE! (Psalm 61:3)
“3For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
A REFUGE from DISTRACTIONS that keep us from the main ATTRACTION!
A REFUGE from the gnawing of deadly sins!
A REFUGE from a troubled mind and worried heart!
A REFUGE from becoming hardened because of a perverse and wicked culture!
4. When we need a REST! (Psalm 61:4)
“I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings.”
REST from the power and penalty of sin!
REST in the goodness of God!
REST from abiding in the vine!
5. When we need to REMEMBER! (Psalm 61:5, 6)
“5For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. 6Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.”
REMEMBER the healing power of God!
REMEMBER the unction of the Holy Spirit!
REMEMBER answered prayers!
REMEMBER the promises of the Word of God!
REMEMBER the hopeless condition of our world without CHRIST JESUS!
REMEMBER that we are not our own but rather we are bought with a price…the precious blood of Jesus!
6. When we need to REJOICE! (Psalm 61:7, 8)
“He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. 8So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.”
REJOICE over the ultimate defeat of the devil!
REJOICE over the filling of the Holy Spirit!
REJOICE no matter the circumstances!
REJOICE for the best is yet to come!
REJOICE for in heaven there is no more heartache or pain!
7. When we need RESOURCES! (Psalm 61:8)
“So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.”
RESOURCES in Christ!
RESOURCES found in trusting!
RESOURCES demonstrating our Father’s FAITHFULNESS to His children!
Conclusion:
Do you need a ROCK?
RELIEF? REFUGE? REST?
REMEMBRANCE? REJOICE? RESOURCES?
Look to Jesus! Trust in Jesus!! Call upon Jesus!!!
He is our “ROCK.”
