A Brand Plucked Out of the Fire

Introduction: Have you ever felt condemned? Right now, do you feel dirty? Do you know who the “accuser” of the brethren is? What do you do when you sense you are under the attack of the enemy?

Today’s devotion will give each believer some insights as to how to deal with this situation. While technically speaking, this is a picture of Israel standing before the Lord, practically speaking, it also represents every person.

1. Can you Hear the ACCUSATIONS of the little liar, the dirty devil? (Zech 3:1, 2)

“1And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. 2And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?”

  • Notice Satan’s ACCUSATIONS! (v 1)
  • Notice Satan’s CONFRONTATION! (v 2)
Can you see Satan standing in front of Joshua and pointing his finger at him shouting, “GUILTY….GUILTY”? “Look what he’s done!”

2. Will you take a Look at “Low down” Joshua’s CONDEMNATION? (Zech 3:3)

“Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.”

  • Look at Joshua’s CONDEMNATION! (v 3)

Can you relate to Joshua?

Joshua cannot deny the charges. We all stand guilty before a holy God.

  • Look at Joshua’s EXAMINATION! (v 3)
Have you noticed that when you look in the mirror of God’s Word, it reveals our flaws? But it also guides us toward getting help from outside ourselves!

3. What about our “Loving Lord’s” JUSTIFICATION? (Zech 3:4, 5)

“And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. 5And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.”

Although this is an Old Testament passage, its New Testament equivalent reveals the blood of Jesus Christ “cleanses” us from all sin.

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

“1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1John 2:1, 2)

Conclusion: Our Father not only takes away our sin thru the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, but also restores us back into fellowship with Him. Besides that, He clothes is in His righteousness!

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2Cor 5:21)

So the next time Satan comes knocking on your door, send Jesus to the door. And the next time the devil accuses you of your past sins, then remind him the blood of Jesus Christ has and is cleansing me from ALL sin!
