Finding Purpose in Your Work

Introduction: Whether you are a home maker, computer technician, electrician, a teacher, or whatever you do, you can make your daily task a ministry and mission field. In other words “Blossom where you are planted”! But how? Consider the following:
Paul’s writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to the Church of Colossae, for the purpose of refuting the false teaching that Jesus Christ was not God. After proving that in chapter 1-3, he emphasizes the importance of both the home and workplace. So how can we find PURPOSE in our work?
1. By understanding, it is the Lord we FEAR!
“22Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God.” (Col 3:22)
The word for “fear” is φοβέομαι, which means reverence. Do you reverence the Lord Jesus?
2. By understanding, it is the Lord Jesus we serve, even on our jobs!
“23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” (Col 3:23)
Jesus is watching us! Think about it, the next time we want to cut corners and do something dishonestly. Furthermore, we can make our jobs a sanctuary of worship throughout the day! Do not wait to go to Church to worship Jesus! Do it all week long!! Then we worship corporately on Sunday. (Heb 10:25)
3. By understanding, it is the Lord Jesus who will reward us!
“24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” (Col 3:24)
Isn’t that good to know that Jesus Christ sees what we do, how we treat others, and rewards us accordingly?
