Introduction: Are you facing some GIANTS? We all do! Some bigger than others… In our devotion today, here are some GIANTS that we must SLAY today.
First, notice the three steps that we must take in order to successfully SLAY our BAD GIANTS, but resurrect the GOOD GIANTS.
1. The REVELATION for the SLAYING the BAD GIANTS! (Col. 3:5–6) – “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
Look at the word “mortify.” It is νεκρόω {pronounced – nek-ro’-o}. It means to be dead, mortify, to put to death. Interesting to note, it is in the aorist tense, which indicates it is a past tense verb. In other words, our Lord is saying through Paul that when these Colossian believers were saved, God put to death their old man. Furthermore, when we—today—cooperate with the Spirit, it crucifies the flesh, which in turn activates the power.
2. The ACTIVATION for SLAYING the BAD GIANTS! (Col. 3:5–9) – “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”
What do you think about these BAD, BAD, GIANTS? Simply put, these are listed as pornography {fornication – sex outside the marriage}, dirty minds, hearts, bodies, etc., along with lusts, longings for that which is forbidden, and greediness. These are BIG and BAD GIANTS that need to be SLAIN!
3. The MANIFESTATION in resurrecting the GOOD GIANTS! (Col. 3:5–10) – “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”
Did you pay attention to the BAD GIANTS that need to be slain, but the GOOD GIANTS like the NEW MAN that need to be resurrected? Put off, but put on! It is a deliberate choice. Make it today.
Conclusion: Kill those bad GIANTS! Do not let them remain. Then, watch the Holy Spirit resurrect the GOOD GIANTS. Do it today.
To God be the GLORY!
Love y’all,
Dr. Randy Reese
