From the Hogs to the House

Introduction: Hogs stink! But hog meat that is cooked right makes a delicious meal. Would you let a hog live in your house? Probably not. Hogs were unclean animals in biblical times. Moses writes to the Jewish nation in the Levitical law, these words:

“And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. 8Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.”
(Lev 11:7,8)

Jesus Christ commanded some demons who had possessed a man to enter into some swine; consequently, the hogs ran down a hill and were drowned into the water.
(Luke 8: 33)

“Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.”

Peter writes and identifies false teachers with the behavior of hogs returning to wallowing in the mud.
(2Pet 2:22)

“But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”

Do you know someone who is living among the hog pen of sin? Do not give up on them. Usually, sooner or later, they will hit rock bottom. Only then will they have a CHANGE of heart.

Speaking of hogs, Jesus Christ tells the account of the Prodigal son to the Pharisees. After receiving his inheritance, he left home wasting his money until he was broke. Then in desperation, he found a job feeding pigs. Imagine. A Jewish boy feeding hogs….the smell…..the slop…..the grunts…..the hunger…the wake up call!

“…… he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.”

Where is the hog pen?
One step away from Jesus.
Where does that next step lead?
Down to the hog pen.

But you can go back home to the Father!
Does our Father long for us to come back home? Ten thousand times, Yes.

Home Sweet Home!
No place like Home!!
Go home!!!

Will you come home today? The Father’s waiting with open arms. He will run to you if you take the first step! Are you tired of living in the hog pen? Don’t you want to sit at the Father’s table once again? If you “turn away” from the direction you have been heading and “turn your face back toward” the Father, He will meet you! He will smother you with kisses because of His great love!! He will restore you back into His family where you belong!!!
