Walk Humbly

Introduction: Do you feel overly prideful of your accomplishments? Are you willing to humble yourself under God’s mighty hand? Do you brag about yourself instead of giving glory to the Lord? During a national crisis, Micah writes to followers of the living God. There is much practicality in this writing. Consider the following: Evaluate yourself. Pray for changes.

1. Walk HUMBLY! (Micah 6:8)

“8He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

What does this mean? First, consider what it does not mean. It does not mean put on an artificial humility. In other words, talk is cheap. Just saying the right words is not all there is to it. After you’ve been in Church for a while or been around a Christian parent or grandparent, it is easy just to repeat what you HEAR, but still be PRIDEFUL. Secret glorying in the flesh is anti-humility. Humility is understanding who we are in the light of who Jesus is and submitting to His RULE and REIGN in our life. Humility is not having a “Know it all attitude.” Humility is being “teachable, leadable.” Are you? Do you need to confess where you’ve missed the mark?

2. Human Pride that robs God of Glory is sinful! (1Pet 5:6)

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.”

There is a counterfeit humility that is prevalent in many Churches today. Our Lord knows our heart.

Conclusion: James writes,

“6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” (James 4:6)

Why not stop right now and offer a prayer of praise to our Lord for all that He has done in your life (all the good, etc)? Why not admit where you’ve not done this? Why not purpose in your heart to begin to recognize that we are what we are because of the GRACE of God!
