Answering God’s Call

Introduction: Have you said YES to JESUS? His calling in your life is most important. We all feel unworthy! But hey. It is not about our worthiness but instead, it is about His worthiness!! Notice a pattern with those He calls.

1. Gideon! (Judges 6:12-16)

“12And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. 13And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. 14And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? 15And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. 16And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.”

Like some of us, Gideon wanted a SIGN from God, which our Lord demonstrated with the fleece and fire. However, please notice that today we have the Holy Spirit and the holy Scriptures whereas Gideon did not in the same sense. Needless to say, God used Gideon in a MIGHTY way! And He will use us as well, if we SURRENDER to His will.

2. Isaiah! (Isa 6:1-8)

“…..8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

After seeing the glory of the Lord and confessing his inadequacies, Isaiah surrenders to God’s call. Will we?

3. Paul! (Acts 9:3-9)

” 3And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. 8And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.”

After persecuting CHRISTians, including Stephen, Paul finally surrendered to Jesus Christ by answering His call.

Are we running from God’s calling?

4. You & me! (1Cor 1:26-31)

“26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29That no flesh should glory in his presence….”

Paul writes under the inspiration of Scripture to the believers at Corinth to remind them of the Lord’s calling.

It is ALL about HIM!
It is all about HIS GLORY!!

Conclusion: Have you answered the call? If so, remember, Jesus is the one that saves us, calls us, equips us, and is coming back for us! Say YES to Him today!!
