Fasting and Faithful Service

Introduction: What does fasting have to do with faith? Take a moment to look at this godly woman who demonstrated how we can live a life that pleases our Lord.
1. A life well lived with the practice of Prayer and Fasting! (Luke 2:36,37)
“And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.”
Anna was “faithful”! Why? What was her secret ? She believed in the power of “prayer and fasting”! Do you?
2. A life well lived with the practice of Prayer and Fasting made her a great WITNESS and WORSHIPPER! (Luke 2:36,37)
“And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”
When our spiritual focus is refined it redirects our calling and purpose in life. No longer are we focused on the minors but instead on the majors. Eternity is in sight. God’s will is supreme. Pleasing Him is our goal. Living for self fades away.
Conclusion: Fasting is a tool our Lord uses to mold us into a usable vessel. Keeping the main thing the main thing is the key! Jesus Christ is the main thing. His will and purpose is utmost. Prayer and Fasting can keep us in track.
