Coming Apart for a While

Introduction: The old saying is true.” If we don’t COME APART for a WHILE, then we will FALL APART!” Do you feel like you are falling apart? Has life got you stressed out? Our Lord knows best. Listen to His words to His disciples while they were desperately needing REST and RECUPERATION.

1. “Come Apart” (Mark 6:28-29)
During or After a CRISIS….John the Baptist was not delivered from prison, instead, he was beheaded…murdered!

“And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother. 29And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.”

John the Baptist had been a bright light! He did not compromise. He stood strong and preached against sin. On the one hand he was respected but on the other hand he was despised. He even called out the king for his promiscuity. Consequently, he was arrested and thrown in prison. Sadly, he was beheaded – martyrdom.

2. “Come Apart” when you don’t understand. (Mark 6:30,31)

“30And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. 31And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while.”

Sometimes we have to disconnect. Workaholics, mothers, performance based acceptance personalities feel guilty Coming Apart for a while. Please notice that it was Jesus who recommended it. Remember that though He was God in the flesh and without sin, yet He still experienced the limitations of this earthly body. So Come Apart.

3. “Come Apart” to recharge your batteries! (Mark 6:31)

“Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.”

The word “rest” is ἀναπαύω: (an-ap-ow’-o), which means give rest, take my ease.

Conclusion: Resting is not a sin. Jesus was not advocating laziness. He was however instructing His followers to take time to “Come Apart for a While”!
