Revival

Introduction: The next few devotions are going to relate to the subject of REVIVAL – Spiritual awakening. There seems to be a misunderstanding of this phenomenon that is recorded in the Bible. Therefore, the first question to discuss is the following:

1. When do we need a REVIVAL? (Hab 3:2)

“O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.”

When the work of God is lacking – not being done – it shows we need a REVIVAL! In Habakkuk’s day the people of God (Israel) were wondering “Why a good God would allow bad things to happen?”

If God was in control, then why would He permit a heathen nation (Babylon) overtake His people and their country? And then on top of that, why would Yahweh/God let a sinful nation take His people into captivity? Yet, after stepping back and hearing a word from the Lord, Habakkuk sees the BIG PICTURE.

Our Lord has a PEOPLE, a PLAN, and a PURPOSE. By the way, He has one for you and me.

2. When do we need a REVIVAL?

These movements of the power of God were demonstrated during times of national and spiritual decline.

Examples: Hezekiah (See 2Chron 29-31), Josiah (2Chron 34), Jonah (3,4), Ezra (8-12)

3. When do we need a REVIVAL? (Psa 138:7)

“7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me…”

Even during a troubled time, the Spirit of God is able to revive the people of God. Are you a candidate?

Conclusion: Do you conclude that our nation/communities/and Churches are in need of a REVIVAL? There is no better time than now for personal revival.
