Debt Free, Guilt Free, Set Free

Introduction: While we are not saved by our feelings, it sure does feel good to be saved! Never forget: “JESUS PAID IT ALL”!! This power-packed verse tells it all. Hallelujah for what our Lord has done through His finished work on the cross and vicarious resurrection from the dead. Taking this passage of Scripture, let’s expound on its glorious truth.

Here are three unbeatable, unchangeable, and unmovable transactions made possible by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

1. GUILT FREE! (Col. 2:14) – “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.”

Jesus does not RUB our sin IN, He RUBS it OUT!

The word “blotting out” is ἐξαλείφω, which means to wipe away, cancel, or erase. Thank God, when Jesus forgives us of our sins, we are GUILT FREE! Are you GUILT FREE?

2. DEBT FREE! (Col. 2:14) – “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.”

Our record of sin is gone!

Next, check out the word “handwriting.” It is χειρόγραφον, which is pronounced khay-RO-grah-fon. It means certificate of debt. Bless the Lord! We are DEBT FREE!

3. SET FREE! (Col. 2:14) – “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.”

The word “ordinances” pictures the sign mounted above the cross which read, “Jesus King of the Jews.” Normally, in Roman culture, the crime would be posted on the cross, which was the case with Jesus Christ. But really, He was the King of the Jews! Furthermore, He will return in His Second Coming as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

Conclusion: Can you relate to this verse? Praise the Lord! Now, because of the precious redeeming blood of Jesus Christ which He shed on the Cross while bearing our sins, we can be GUILT FREE, DEBT FREE, and finally SET FREE.
