This Little Light of Mine

According to Wikipedia, here is the history: “This Little Light of Mine” is an American gospel song that originated in the 1920s, when it was first sung in Christian churches and penitentiaries. The hymn is often attributed to evangelist Harry Dixon Loes, who is said to have written it for children, using the biblical passage about the lamp under a bushel as inspiration. The song was often sung during civil rights protests in the ’50s and ’60s, when Sam Cooke’s version was popular.
In the Sermon on the Mount, our Lord Jesus Christ said these words: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matt 5:14–16)
Question: Has your LIGHT been SHINING? Or is it hidden? Perhaps today you need to TURN it ON! How BRIGHT is your LIGHT? We live in a world that needs a BRIGHT LIGHT because it’s like a DARK NIGHT. But remember, the darker the NIGHT, the BRIGHTER the LIGHT!!
Have you heard the phrase, “This little light of mine, it’s been DARK for quite some time”?
First, don’t forget that Jesus is the LIGHT of the world (John 8:12). Also remember that John writes that “God is light”! (1 John 1:5)
If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, then your LIGHT should be shining.
Is your LIGHT BRIGHT, or has it gotten dim?
What are some reasons that “This little light of mine has been DARK some quite some time”?
So how can we BRIGHTEN our LIGHT?
“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.”
Conclusion: By the way, when your LIGHT goes out sometimes you need to change the batteries! Or better yet, go get another LIGHT. Be sure that you are SHINING the RIGHT LIGHT!!
