Resurrection Power for Unity

Introduction: How can a Church achieve Unity? Remember – Diversity + Maturity = Unity
This verse outlines this principle with a word study.

“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).

1. The words “till we all come” is καταντάω: (kat-an-tah’-o), which means to come down to, to reach. It can mean to arrive at, reach (my destination).

This next part has significant meaning because of the context in which it is used… “come down (descend) by inheritance to an heir.” This is spoken to the Church of Ephesus and us today. Are you rejoicing over your inheritance?

2. The word “unity” is ἑνότης, (hen-ot-ace’). It means to adjure in oneness. There is a difference in Unity & Union.

If you tie two tomcats tails together and throw them over a clothes line, you’ve got UNION. But you sure don’t have UNITY!

3. The word “perfect” is τέλειος, (tel’-i-os). By definition, it means having reached its end, or complete in all its parts. It has to do with being full grown, or of full age. In this context, it is used especially of the completeness of Christian character. Disagreements, misunderstandings, and offenses must be forgiven.

Are you full grown? Do you desire to preserve the unity of the Church?

Conclusion: As you can see our Lord wants to grow His people into His image. When that takes place there will be unity. But after all, it takes His Resurrection Power to accomplish this task. “He’s Still Working on Me”!
