What Does God Do With Our Sins?

Introduction: Have you ever sinned? How many times? Guilt always follows disobedience….but the “GOOD NEWS” is the Lord Jesus forgives our sins, as we trust in Him. Consider a biblical study of “What God Does With Our Sins”! Some of the SWEETEST words in all the BIBLE are “Your sins are FORGIVEN”! Are yours?

1. Our God- “BLOTS out our Sin”! (Isa 44:22; Isa 43:25)

“I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.”

“I even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”

  • The word “blot” is mâchâh, which means erase, wipe out
  • The word “transgression” is rebellion
Personal Application: The Lord Jesus does not “RUB” our sin “IN,” but rather, He “RUBS” it “OUT”!

2. Our God- “CAST our Sins BEHIND His Back”! (Isaiah 38:17)

“Behold, for peace[1] I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.”

  • The word “cast” is shâlak, which means throw, hurl, fling
Personal Application: When the Holy Spirit uses the phrase, “Cast our sins behind thy back,” it means He does not see them.

3. Our God- “Cast our Sins in the DEPTHS of the SEA”! (Micah 7:19)

“He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”

  • The word “iniquity” is âvôn, which means depravity, perversity
  • The word “compassion” is râcham, which means love, mercy
Personal Application: Somebody said that God puts up a “NO FISHING SIGN” where our sins are buried in the deepest sea.

4. Our God- “CLEANSES us from our Sin”! (Isa 1:18)

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Personal Application: God wants us to reason with the fact that He turns our sins from ugly stains to White as snow….. we’re clean and forgiven!

5. Our God-“FORGETS our Sin”! (Heb 8:12)

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”

  • The word “remember” is mimnḗskō, which means remind, to recall, or to bring to remembrance
Personal Application: I love it that our Lord Jesus does not remind us of our sins. Therefore, once we’ve been forgiven we need to forget them as well.

6. Our God- “FORGIVES our Sin”! (Psalm 32:1-5)

“I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.”

Personal Application: Just as David experienced God’s grace and forgiveness, we can find peace and pardon through the blood of Jesus Christ.

7. Our God- “PARDONS our Sins”! (Isaiah 55:7)

“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous[1] man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”

  • The word “pardon” is sâlach, which means to be forgiven, spare
Personal Application: The believer is “spared” – pardoned – because Jesus was not spared – but crucified in our place! (Rom 8:32)

He paid a DEBT He did not owe!
It was a high PRICE we could not pay!
“JESUS PAID IT ALL, ALL to HIM I OWE”

8. Our God- “REMOVES our Sin”! (Psalm 103:12)

“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”

  • The word “removed” is râchaq, which means to send away, loose
Personal Application: The scape goat described in Lev 16 on the Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur – was sent away into the wilderness after the priest would confess the people’s sin on the goat’s head. This was a picture of what God did with their sin….send it away. Jesus she’s our sins away in the depths of His precious blood!

Conclusion: The case is made…. “What God does with our Sins”! Since He, “BLOTS them Out,” “CAST them behind His back,” “CAST them in the depths of the Sea,” “CLEANSES” them, “FORGETS” them, “FORGIVES” them, “PARDONS” them, and finally, “REMOVES” them. How can we not LOVE and SERVE a “Good God” like that!
