Keeping Warm in an Ice-Cold World

1. First, we must strike the match that lights the fires of faith! (1 Thess. 1:3) – “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.”
- Your finances?
- Your family?
- Your future?
- Your friendships?
- Your fears?
- Your foes?
- Your faith?
- Your freedom?
2. Second, we must fan the flames of faith with truth and love! (1 Thess. 1:3) – “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.”
3. Third, we must get close to the fires of hope in a hopeless world! (1 Thess. 1:3) – “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.”

White as Snow

Overwhelmed and Overloaded

First, Jethro observed. Second, he brought solutions to the problem. Third, his wise counsel was followed. (Exodus 18:19) – “Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God.”
Conclusion: How many workers, mothers, and business people are in the same predicament as Moses? Will we take heed to Jethro’s advice? Are we going to listen to wise counsel or continue to wear ourselves out mentally, emotionally, physically, and, more importantly, spiritually?

Spiritual Battles

The word “stronghold” is ὀχύρωμα (okh-oo’-ro-mah), which means a fortress, strong defense, or stronghold.
In other words, Satan builds a fortress (castle) in a person’s mind, which can take hold of one’s life. The manifestation of the fortress could be lust, pornography, jealousy, envy, lasciviousness, strife, bitterness, or other things.
Keep in mind, if we open the door of our mind to the devil, he will walk right in. Once in, he will refuse to leave. Only Jesus Christ can force him out. Then the cleanup job must be done.
“…bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Cor 10:5)
The words “pulling down” are καθαίρεσις (kath-ah’-ee-res-is), which means taking down, razing, or destroying. The words “taking captive” are αἰχμαλωτίζω (aheekh-mal-o-tid’-zo), which means to take captive (in war); I subdue or ensnare.

How to Live the Kind of Life that Pleases Our Lord

1. Watch Your Step CAREFULLY! (Ephesians 5:15) – “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.”
2. Use Your Time WISELY! (Ephesians 5:16) – “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
3. Fill Your Tank DAILY! (Ephesians 5:18) – “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.”
Conclusion: I know what you’re thinking… “Three out of five isn’t bad!” Or, “We can’t do that. It’s unachievable.” No, we can’t (in ourselves). But if we: 1. Admit we can’t, 2. Believe and trust Him to enable us, and 3. Cooperate with the Holy Spirit, it is possible. Otherwise, the Lord wouldn’t have had Paul write it down for us. Not perfection, but pleasing!

With Jesus We Win

1. With Jesus we WIN God’s favor and forgiveness! (2Cor 9:15) – “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.”
3. With Jesus we WIN Heaven as our Home! (John 14:1-3) – “1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself that where I am, there ye may be also.”
Conclusion: Stop talking negatively. Start praising our Lord daily! With Jesus, no matter what, we Win! In life, in death, in sickness, and in health, with Jesus we WIN!

Sweet Sleep

Introduction: Do you have trouble sleeping? One man said, “Not too bad — except sometimes during the daytime!” I love what Solomon was inspired to write. Check out the following:
“24When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.”
1. Fear keep us from sleep! (Prov 3:24) – “24When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid.”
The word “afraid” is פָחַד,(paw-kkad’), which means to dread, be in dread or in awe. Honestly, when we dread something, it usually makes us sleepless.
2. Sudden fear and devastation keep us from sleeping! (Prov 3:25) – “Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.”
3. But the Lord gives us His presence and peace to help us to sleep! (Prov 3:26) – “26For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”
