Hot and Thirsty for God

Introduction: I love Psalm 42:1. Although reading it is like riding a roller coaster… up one hill, and down another. How can we stay thirsty for the Lord?

1. By Pursuing Him! (Psa 42:1)

“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”

On a hot summer day, a good old glass of cold water quenches our thirst like nothing else. So it is with Jesus! While nothing else this world can afford to give satisfies our heart and soul like the “love of Jesus Christ”! Are you satisfied with Jesus? But really, is He satisfied with us?

2. By Pouring our heart out to Him! (Psa 42:2,3)

“2My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 3My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?”

There are times in our life when we are required to carry heavy burdens. But we are not alone! Jesus has promised to be with us forever.

3. By Praising Him! (Psa 42:4,5)

“When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”

We ought to STOP and count our BLESSINGS! They are innumerable.

4. By Praying to Him! (Psa 84:8,9)

“8Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. 9I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”

Prayer Works, if you Work it! Teach us to pray Lord!!

Conclusion: While the world, the flesh, and the devil are out to extinguish our burning desire to LOVE & Serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is fanning the flames of faith. Indeed, this is a lifelong journey.
