Obviously, there are several answers you could give. But here are a few sandwiched in the book of Galatians. Follow closely because these tests are inevitable. See how you do.

1. Be LED by the Spirit! (Galatians 2:1–2) – “Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.” 

Keep in mind, Paul had been directed by the Holy Spirit to go up to Jerusalem three years after his radical conversion, which resulted in an amazing transformation. Why? Perhaps to be affirmed by those disciples who were eyewitnesses of the risen Lord.

However, this second God-led journey to Jerusalem, which was fourteen years after the first, was with Barnabas and Titus. The point is that Paul, who once was a Pharisee led by his religious traditions, was now learning to let another be in CONTROL—the Holy Spirit!

This first test is constantly being given to those of us reading this. How are you doing? Needing help?

2. Watch Out for LEGALISM! (Galatians 2:3–4) – “But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage.” 

First, notice that they were FALSE BRETHREN—wolves in sheep’s clothing. Without the Holy Spirit’s discernment, many fall prey to these LEGALISTS.

It seems like the devil will always try to trip us up with what “sounds good” but isn’t from the Lord. All you have to do is go back to the Garden of Eden scene where Eve was being deceived. Unfortunately, she fell into the trap.

Likewise, today there are quite a few snakes in the grass that will try to lead you astray with what sounds good. Beware. Watch out. Do not fall for it. Keep in the light.

3. Appreciate God’s Grace That LIGHTS Up Our LIFE! (Galatians 2:9) – “And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.” 

Did you pick up on the words, “perceived the grace…was given me”? That was the Holy Spirit’s neon light of confirmation that Paul was shining because of JESUS CHRIST, who was indwelling him.

Remember. Jesus is the Light. He lights up our life! Others see it and give Him glory!

These tests will be administered all along the way for every Christian. Are we going to be led by the Spirit or the flesh? Are we going to combat legalism? And finally, are we going to let our light shine?

Prepare now for these tests. The goal is to pass them for His glory.
